A Young Woman's Career Path
What Is A Career? By ~9 - 5~

It was only last generation when people still believed that you needed to get a good education so you could get a 'good' job. They then stay in their 'good' jobs until retirement age. These days we change jobs every couple of years and change careers at least three times before we retire. So what is a career?

Is money the answer to the question? Money is the driving force behind many major decisions in all of our lives. Once we get our 'good' jobs and we are living comfortably within our means does our job suddenly become a career? Or is a career defined by our aspirations, job satisfaction, and our happiness?

For me a career is something that fulfils all these things. It is something that will provide me with the financial means of living my life outside of work. It is something that will provide enough mental stimulus for me to learn and develop new skills while I'm working. It will definitely be something that I am passionate about instead of something that I have to drag myself out of bed for. And most importantly of all, it will be something that I enjoy doing.

So have I found my career yet? The truthful answer to that is no. Although the industry I'm in pays well, and there are plenty of opportunities to learn new things I still wake up every morning hoping it is Saturday. I listen to my alarm clock, hoping that it's lying and I don't really have to go to work again.

Does this mean it's time for me to change careers already? Maybe, but I still have a lot to learn where I am. Not in terms of industry related skills, but life skills. Those skills that can be taken with me no matter where I go or what I decide to do next. The people skills.

The other thing I need to do before changing careers is decide where I want to go next. Right now there are so many options available to me that I am having a hard time deciding.
